Listed Species Studies
Florida is a unique place, and people don’t always realize that many properties—especially large undeveloped tracts of land like farms—are often home to gopher tortoises and other listed species.
Gopher tortoises have been listed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFWCC) as threatened. The US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is now considering listing the gopher tortoise federally as well. The rules that affect development within gopher tortoise habitat have changed significantly over the past year.
Authorized gopher tortoise agents are the only individuals licensed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to survey, relocate, or handle gopher tortoises. OEC has properly licensed and experienced staff ready to address gopher tortoise issues on your property.
We use the latest techniques to determine whether listed species are likely to be present on your property. If necessary, we conduct field investigations to establish the presence, absence or status of listed animal and plant species. Usually, we use GIS and GPS data to create maps that show areas of concern. We can then use this data, combined with your proposed site plan, to work with you and the permitting agencies in developing a solution.
